Incredible pop icon sculptures carved out of Crayola crayons

If you've got some spare time on your hands this month, why not take a Crayola and carve one of your favourite pop icons out of it? Sounds impossible, right? But our beloved crayons actually make the perfect material to create tiny sculptures, according to artist Hoang Tran.

Using large-size Crayolas, the artist delicately hand-carves them into characters from TV programmes and movies such as The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Breaking Bad, Despicable Me and Star Wars. If that doesn't blow your mind enough, Tran melts wax from other coloured crayons and applies it as an accent to the figure he's creating. Just adding this small detail helps to make each sculpture instantly recognisable.

You can discover Tran's latest work on his own blog, Wax Nostalgic. Even better, you can purchase Tran's incredible sculptures via his Etsy shop. What's even more wonderful is that if you're looking for something bespoke, it's not a problem. Tran is happy to create custom designs, including things such as pet portraits.

If you've loved this series, then you should definitely check out Seattle-based artist Diem Chau whom we've featured previously.
